A coalition of sixteen states, led by California, is suing President Donald Trump because of his decision to declare a state of emergency and thus free up money for the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico.

California’s Attorney General Mr Xavier Becerra said that he and his colleagues from Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Virginia are suing Mr Trump for “his abuse of presidential power “.

“We’re going to try to halt the President from violating the Constitution, the separation of powers, from stealing money from Americans and states that has been allocated by Congress, lawfully,” said Mr Becerra.

The Californian claims there is no state of emergency at the border with Mexico. According to him, the president had said earlier that he did not have to declare a state of emergency to build the wall.

  1. All the states that share no border with Mexico, shut up and sit down! New Mexico, your 30 miles of border doesn’t count for much, but rave on if you like. California, slide off into the ocean please!
