The lifeless body of an 11-year-old girl reported missing just 24 hours before was found by the sheriff’s department. Young Amberly Lee Barnett was last seen visiting her aunt in Collinsville, Alabama on Friday.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Walden admitted during a hastily called press conference that the body discovered was indeed that of the little girl, though he refused any details on the cause of death.
The sheriff stated: ‘We are diligently, diligently pursuing different avenues. My heart is shattered this day in DeKalb County, Alabama. We will go forward and, God willing, we will have those answers.’
Her mother Jonie had just hours before that posted a message on Facebook urging everyone to help: ‘Her phone was left behind and my baby takes it everywhere. Nothing in her phone indicated she was planning to leave!’
‘Amberly is the type to not do anything that she will get in trouble. She would not have ran away or make plans to go off somewhere. A green SUV was seen leaving the driveway!’
