The Chinese ‘Big Brother’ system is kicking into high gear now that a first celebrity has been banned from leaving the country as the country’s social credit system (which involves the government giving you points based on your behavior), has rated renowned actress Ye Xuan (also known as Michelle Ye Xuan) as ‘untrustworthy’.
The former international beauty queen has thus been banned from travelling out of China. She found out when she tried to board a plane last month and any mention of her on social media ever since in China is heavily monitorized.
It would appear that female jealousy is at the centre of this latest scandal as Ms Ye, who won the Miss Chinese International competition at the age of 20, had blasted her former boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend on social media.
The ‘classic Chinese beauty’ studied liberal arts at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, according to the public information on her verified Weibo account.
Back in 2017, Ms Ye was sued by her then boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, Lv Mei.
Ms Lv accused Ms Ye of damaging her reputation by spreading malicious rumours about her on China’s Twitter-like Weibo.
Because the court ruled with Ms Lv, the actress is now forbidden to travel until her ‘social credit rating system’ goes back into positive territory.
