Representatives of iconic rock band Nirvana have launched a copyright claim against luxury fashion designer Marc Jacobs, the former head of Louis Vuitton, for using its copyrighted smiley face logo in the fashion designer’s latest collection and campaign.

Nirvana, the grunge band which made Kurt Cobain a worldwide icon in the 1990s, trademarked the symbol of a smiley face with two X-es for eyes and a drunken smile in 1992, and claims that the fashion brand is now using the band’s fame to pursue further sales.

The well-known Nirvana logo appears on three items in latest Marc Jacobs collection.

The products in question – a T-shirt, a sweater and socks – are part of Jacobs’ reissued Bootleg Redux Grunge collection.
